Take it to the Hole Kobe
Anyone else wondering, when Kobe is going to start taking the ball to the hole? The Lakers are so much better when Kobe Bryant drives through the lane. He breaks down the defense with tiring drives that put the opponent in foul trouble and give 15 to 20 free-throws. It opens up his shot selection and clearly spreads the floor. Let me know if any other Laker Heads out there see my perspective.
I’m pretty sure that John Delgado and I aren’t the only people who think Kobe has fallen in love with the unbelievable fade-aways that he seems to make every game. Who can blame him…But let’s get back to the formula for Lakers domination. I believe the Lakers are unstoppable when Kobe and Lamar are aggressive driving the lane. Let’s take the ball to the hole boys and get a ring this year!
2 Cents on MVP Race
Let’s face it, ESPN decided it was Lebron James’ turn for MVP before this season even started. The MVP race shouldn’t be over, because the season has a dozen games left. I read an ESPN story yesterday that was actually considering James’ current season as one of the greatest ever. A few years ago, Kobe averaged 35+ppg and carried an awful Lakers team to the playoffs. He scored 81 points in a game and had a plethora of 40 and 50 point games. I also remember Kobe getting voted on the All NBA team for defense as well. Unfortunately for Lakers fans, Steve Nash was the flavor of the year and the media had decided to give Nash his 2nd consecutive MVP before the season started. Apparently defense is not considered much with the MVP. Statistically only Wilt and possibly Jordan may have ever had better years on paper than Kobe that year.
The following year, the media jumped on the Dirk Nowitski band-wagon and shockingly, he was voted as the MVP. I will admit that the media, momentarily jumped on Kobe’s train last year for MVP, but he should have won it at least 1 of the previous 3 years.
Don’t get me wrong, Lebron is having an amazing year and may in fact be the MVP, but the race is not over. Kobe’s minutes are down this year and the Lakers’ triangle offense is not designed to pad assists or rebounds like Cleveland’s system. The bottom line, the media should stop campaigning for Lebron…He doesn’t need it let the final days of the season dictate the winner of the trophy. The only thing I care about is the Lakers crushing the Celtics in the Finals come June.
